Art Palace presents Outer Limits, new paintings by Austin-based artist Eric Gibbons. Drawing upon icons of good and evil, Gibbons weaves the characters of Star Wars: Princess Leia, Darth Vadar and company, into psychologically-charged portraits and narratives. These paintings challenge this dichotomy to complicate archetypes and to explore the emotional undercurrents driving human nature and relationships. “The Force” becomes a metaphor for Gibbon’s artistic practice. Gibbons writes about this series: “They depict moments of doubt, shame and guilt. The paintings humanize heroes as well as villains. They show tough guys crying and late night bouts of demonic possession.”
