Untitled Landscape Device
Mark Schatz
ART PALACE presents a permanent outdoor installation by Mark Schatz: Untitled Landscape Device
Part horticulture and part interactive sculpture, Untitled Landscape Device embraces and makes overt the active role we have in shaping the urban and suburban landscape to our every whim and fantasy. In this work the noun “landscape” is replaced by the verb “to landscape.” By engaging the three movable arms, viewers can reposition the landforms infinitely to create different relationships to the street, the house, and to each other.
Mark Schatz received his MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He has exhibited his work in several locations throughout Texas including Cactus Bra, Rudolph Projects, and the Austin Museum of Art’s 2002 “22 To Watch.” His work will be included in the show “Nostalgia”, this July at UTSA’s Satellite Space.
